Firenze is home to many museums housing some of the worlds most celebrated statues and paintings.
The Accademia
Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze where Michelangelo's statue of David is on display along with a number of his other unfinished statues and a collection of other plaster and marble statues.  We had a prearranged tour first thing in the morning right as the museum opened.  The tour was worth it both for the information but also getting to see David when the museum crowds were at their lowest.
The Uffizi
The Uffizi Galleries are a large collection of paintings and statues, mostly by artists from or connected to Firenze.  Probably most famious for housing La Primavera and the Birth of Venus paintings by Botticelli.
The Pitti Palace
One of the Medici family homes.  The Medici family was the most prominent family in Firenze during the Renaissance period.  They were the benefactors for many famous artists and the last surviving member of the family played an instrumental part in preserving and keeping all these amazing artworks in Firenze.
The Duomo and City Statues
Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore or the Duomo is the large cathedral in the middle of the city.  Many of the city's piazzas are adorned with statues and fountains as well, meandering through the city in the early morning was one of my highlights.
