The island of Itsukushima just south of Hiroshima is a bustling tourist town in the day but is tranquil and peaceful in the off hours.
Most people come for the day to see the Itsukushima Jinja, a massive shinto gate that makes its home in the tidal flats.
However, the island also houses many other shrines, some great hikes, and fabulous food.
