We stayed in a mountain hut for three nights in the Val Gardena. It is a beautiful valley like area surrounded by the Dolomite mountains and dotted with huts and ski runs. We were lucky enough to experience a variety of weather during our stay, freak early snow storm, clear sunny skies, and all kinds clouds. The highlight of the valley is climbing to the Seceda outlook but frankly the entire valley is gorgeous.
A note about huts in the Dolomites. Like the Alps it is dotted with Refugios/Huts which offer snacks, drinks, and lunch. So no matter where you are hiking you can always find a bite to eat and a beer.
Many huts offer overnight lodging which include dinner and breakfast as well as hiking advice. Our hut stay was one of our best hotel experiences, great food, hot tub, good company, and a beautiful view.
